Don't even think about long-term stuff until you have that three-month supply. For a long time the church talked only about a long-term storage. Recently (2007), the church changed the recommended priorities and now suggests getting a three-month supply first.

Don't let it overwhelm you. Aim for a one-week supply, then two. You can do it! Just get extra of the easily-stored things you already eat.

I thought I had done a post on expiration dates, but it doesn't look like I have. I'll work on a post on that topic to post soon - maybe even today.

Yes, pay attention to the dates on the tins or cans. My own personal experience is that unless the can is dented or bulging, I can use it well beyond the expiration date stamped. Be smart, though. If any food item looks or smells wrong, discard it.Wendyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09599912078704905243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4104850467540824174.post-22399975650475589212013-09-25T07:28:15.859-07:002013-09-25T07:28:15.859-07:00Julie,

Here is a link to ideas for fitting storage in any housing situation: http://iprepared.blogspot.com/2009/01/ive-run-out-of-room.html Obviously, you'll adjust amounts needed to be for just one person which will use even less space. Well, the need for water storage has been around for years. The good thing about storing water is that it can always be used for different purposes. Anyway, from the looks of it, I think the tank can hold up to 1,200 liters of water. It’s certainly taking another step towards getting your cabin house off the grid!Richelle Loughneyhttp://www.modutank.com/secondary-containment-tanks-systems/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4104850467540824174.post-29864777561470652942012-12-10T01:39:05.514-08:002012-12-10T01:39:05.514-08:00Great, that might be prepared for something... hah...Great, that might be prepared for something... hah! The water came by gravity from a neighborhood Water tower. We filled 1 gallon plastic bottles with hot water and placed them in at the foot of our bed.
Also sitting in a Slepping bad with the hot water bottle bewtween your feet (advise heavy socks or shoes on) while fully dressed, keeps a person warm. Good time to play board games, read books aloud, ect, ect.
In the same ice storm we had a small toyota pickup parked facing the sun. It was a treat to go out there and "Warm up" for awhile. The sun warmed it initially then running it to charge a cell phone and the heater. Afterwards enjoying the glide back down to cooler temps.
It's interesting to find out how many things are available when you are pressed into the situation.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4104850467540824174.post-60933396166804021472012-11-07T16:05:03.083-08:002012-11-07T16:05:03.083-08:00Thanks for these suggestions.
